SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CALCULATING THE FIELD OF VIEW OF A CAMERA USING A CHART

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CALCULATING THE FIELD OF VIEW OF A CAMERA USING A CHART

Senthilmurugan MS, Krithika G | PAT No: PATS-58 | Application/Grant No: 18186275

When calculating the Field of View (FOV), the user may have some accuracy error due to distortion and takes more time to validate the Diagonal FOV, Vertical FOV and Horizontal FOV by using a measuring tape or scale. In addition to this, we don’t have any chart for calculating all the FOVs (Diagonal, vertical and Horizontal) at the same time. Therefore, in order to overcome the abovementioned problem, there exists a need for a singular chart. The present invention develops a system and a method that is used to calculate the FOVs of the camera by using the chart. The chart design comprises a circle in the center with a predefined diameter as seen in the figure. We can calculate the actual FOV by using distance, horizontal, vertical, and diagonal and display the result by plotting the contours in the image. Through this invention an instantaneous output is displayed in the monitor of the software for the Diagonal FOV, Vertical FOV and Horizontal FOV.
