1. What is "Infineon SX3 HDMI USB 3 4K Capture" - reference design kit (Pictor)?
 
It is used to capture an HDMI video + audio stream and using the USB port on a PC.
 
2. What is the maximum input video resolution supported by this kit?
 
It can support 4K UHD (3840 x 2160), 30fps video + Audio.
 
3. What are the maximum output video resolution and color formats it can support?
 
It supports YUV422 up to 1920 x 1080, 60 fps, and YUV420 format for UHD, 30fps at the output.
 
4. Does it support RGB or YUV422 format for UHD, 30fps at the HDMI Input?
 
Yes. It can support at the input.
 
5. Does it support YUV422 format for UHD, 30fps at the output?
 
No. It can't support YUV422 or RGB format at the output.
 
6. What are the resolutions it can support at the HDMI input?
 
640 x 480p, 60 Hz
720 x 480p, 60 Hz
720 x 576p, 50 Hz
1280 x 720p, 60 Hz
1920 x 1080i, 60 Hz
1920 x 1080p, 60 Hz

Any HDMI source is supported. For example the following devices can be used.

  • »  Raspberry Pi
  • »  Android TV set-top box
  • »  Apple TV
  • »  PC or Laptop's HDMI out
  • »  Camera's HDMI output
 
8. How this kit is powered?
 
This kit is powered by the USB-C connector.
 
9. How to re program this kit?
 
The SX3 firmware, configuration and FPGA can be re programmed using the "Infineon EZ-USB SX3 Configuration utility".
 
10. What is the HDMI receiver used in this kit?
 
IT6801 HDMI Receiver IC is used in this kit. Contact www.ite.com for the detail datasheet of IT6801.
 
11. Does this kit work with USB 2 or USB Highspeed port?
 
It can work with USB 2 port the frame rate will be reduced to fit the USB 2 bandwidth. When connected to USB3 port it will provide maximum frame rate.
 
12. Where to find the schematic of this kit?
 
The kit has two boards. The schematic of both boards can be downloaded from the kit web page.
 
13. How to modify the SX3 firmware for this kit?
 

The SX3 is fixed function part. So no firmware source code will be available.

14. How to modify the firmware of the HDMI RX IC?
 
The firmware of the HDMI RX is fixed. It is configurable using the "Infineon EZ-USB SX3 Configuration utility". Check the configuration tool user guide that is available under the "help" menu.
 
15. How to view the video captured using this kit?
 
Any UVC player application like Microsoft Windows Camera application, eCAMView player, MPC-HC player can be used to view the video.
 
16. How to play the Audio captured using this kit?
 

The Audio can be played back on the Laptop's speaker by configurating the Audio input device of this kit to laptop's speaker by following the steps below

  • a.  Open "Windows Control panel"
  • b.  Click on the "Hardware and Sound" icon"
  • c.  Click on the "Sound" icon
  • d.  Select the "Recording" tab
  • e.  Double click on "Microphone - S3"
  • f.  Select the "Listen" tab under the "Microphone properties" window
  • g.  Check the "Listen to this device" checkbox and press "Apply" button.
  • h.  You should hear the Audio from HDMI in Laptop speakers.
  • i.  Adjust your speaker volume
