1.1 What is eSOMgears?
 
eSOMGears is a cloud based Over-The-Air (OTA) Firmware update tool that can update the firmware of your devices on the field.
 
 
1.2 How do I get a free trial for eSOMgears?
 
Please register on the eSOMgears website for a free trial - esomgears.e-consystems.com.
 
 
1.3 Is there a fee after my trial period?
 
Yes. Please contact sales@e-consystems.com for more information.
 
 
1.4 Do I need an account to access?
 
Yes. You can use your e-mail address to create an account. Please visit esomgears.e-consystems.com for registration. You will be able to use eSOMgears only through this account.
 
 
1.5 What devices and boards are supported?
 
On Linux - eSOMgears supports eSOMiMX6 (Solo, Quad) & eSOMiMX6-micro
On Android - eSOMgears supports eSOMiMX6 (Solo, Quad)
 
  
1.6 What development setup do I need?
 
You will need the same development machine requirements as required to build a new firmware for the SOM. eSOMGears will integrate into your SOM image build process.
 
 
1.7 Do I need to have a cloud account?
 
No, you don’t need to have a cloud account. eSOMGears is available as a "SaaS- Software as a Service" option. So all you need is a e-con Systems User login.

eSOMgears website is protected using HTTPS - The security standard used on the Internet to protect sensitive web pages.

3.1 How should I configure eSOMgears on my device?
 
The eSOMgears provides a developer kit to configure eSOMgears on your device.
 
 
3.2 Do you have an SDK that I can use in my application?
 
Yes, we provide a SDK which you can use to integrate eSOMgears OTA update in your application.
 
 
3.3 How do devices communicate with the cloud application?
 
eSOMgears provides device and cloud side SDKs which enables the devices to communicate with the cloud application.
 
 
3.4 Is there a limit on the number of devices that can be updated?
 
There is no limitation on the number of devices that can be updated using eSOMgears.
 
 
3.5 What are the platforms supported by eSOMgears for OTA update?
 
eSOMgears support OTA update on Linux and Android platforms.
 
 
3.6 Is internet connection a must for eSOMgears?
 
Yes. Both the SOM and your computer needs to be connected to internet for eSOMgears to work.
 
 
3.7 What type of connectivity is required by eSOMGears?
 
eSOMgears works on Ethernet and WIFI networks.
 
 
3.8 How can I try OTA using eSOMgears?
 
We have developed a sample application for both Linux and Android platforms with which you can perform OTA update using eSOMgears.

4.1 My device is connected to internet but does not list any updates?
 
If there is any configuration mismatch between the device and the cloud, updates may not be listed in the device.
 
  5. Upgrade
 
5.1 What happens to my device when there is a power failure during upgrade?
 
Your device will be safe. The device will roll back to the previous known state after you power on the device again.
  6. Security
 
6.1 Is my data on the cloud secure?
 
Yes, the firmware data are stored on our servers that are protected by very strict industry grade firewalls.
 
 
6.2 What information is shared on the cloud?
 
Device Id, device status and Product information are shared on the cloud.
 
 
6.3 How are my account details protected? Is my account password encrypted?
 
eSOMgears account details are stored in a database located behind powerful, robust firewalls. The account passwords are cryptographically encrypted and stored.

7.1 What is included in the trial version?
 
The trial version includes Cloud access, Developer kit, User manual and eSOMgears sample application. With these, you can try OTA update on eSOMiMX6 devices.
