HMI - Lighting Control System in Commercial Office Space

eSOM3730 enables one point lighting controller

A Lighting control company approached e-con Systems for developing a Human Machine Interface (HMI) for it's control system. They were planning to release a product that controlled the lighting system of a massive commercial office space from a single point. They were interested in using eSOM3730 System on Module.

Challenges

Customer had already built several boards in the control system and they were looking out for a controller and User interface system. The System had to take inputs from the user with regards to configuration settings, any immediate control etc and systematically control the entire lighting system in the way it is programmed.

Customer wanted to develop the hardware themselves and wanted support from e-con systems for the software - BSP development. Working around a pre-built hardware system was a challenge.

Approach

Customer was new to processor world and e-con Systems guided them throughout the product development cycle. e-con Systems shared their designs and helped in schematics review and PCB design review. e-con Systems took responsibility of board bring up. Being WinCE experts, e-con Systems completed board bring up in a short period of time. To improve user experience, the team faced challenges in turning touch screen sensitivity.

The customer requirement was that the BSP had to expose API at a specific format, so that the application that was built can work without any issues.

All API controls for the system were delivered. During application integration, there were several days where in the team worked closely with the customer despite vast time zone difference. The product was integrated successfully with the customer application. e-con Systems also helped customer in getting the WinCE license.

Outcome

Customer is now selling the product in Market and e-con dispatched its eSOM3730 modules with WinCE license stamped and with the final binary. This enabled the customer to capture a good number of customers in lighting control market.
