e-CAM32_OMAP_GSTIX - 3.2 MP Camera Board for Gumstix® ’s Overo® Series

The e-CAM32_OMAP_GSTIX expansion board is e-con Systems' 3.2 Megapixel camera board which works plug and play with every Gumstix® Overo® computer-on-module (COM).

 

The Gumstix Overo® series of computers on modules includes the Overo Earth COM (OMAP3503), Overo Air COM (OMAP3503), Overo Water COM (OMAP3530), Overo Fire COM (OMAP3530), Overo® AirSTORM COM (AM3703), Overo® EarthSTORM COM (AM3703), Overo® FireSTORM COM (DM3730) and Overo® WaterSTORM COM (DM3730). Each Gumstix Overo COM is powered by a Texas Instruments' (TI's) OMAP Applications Processor and has the same 27 pin header to which the e-CAM32_OMAP_GSTIX can be interfaced.

The TI OMAP35x processors offer tremendous processing power thanks to the Superscalar ARM Cortex-A8 core running at 600MHz. The higher end variants of this CPU (OMAP3525 and OMAP3530) support a C64x DSP and Video accelerator making it an ideal CPU for high-end real-time image processing. The OMAP 3503 or the OMAP 3530 Applications Processor power each of the four Gumstix Overo COMs.

 

The Linux camera driver closely integrates with the IVA2.2 (Image, Video and Audio Subsystem) Accelerator subsystem. This enables the application developer to fully utilize the advanced features available in the OMAP35x CPU.

   
 

OMAP35x / AM37x / DM37x ISP support

   
 

On the Camera ISP backend, the camera module e-CAM32_OMAP_GSTIX nicely integrates with the 8-bit parallel camera interface. This interface can support up to 130MHZ for 8-bit parallel camera data. With this clock, e-con has achieved capturing of video at 30fps at D1/VGA resolution from the e-CAM32_OMAP_GSTIX camera daughter board

   
 

Evaluation Kit

   
 

The e-CAM32_OMAP_GSTIX evaluation kit can be bought by customers choosing to evaluate the e-CAM32_OMAP_GSTIX camera solution with Gumstix's Overo series of Computer on Modules. Customers would need to have the Gumstix Overo module for interfacing the e-CAM32_OMAP_GSTIX camera board. Please see the kit contents on the right.

 

Customers who have bought development boards based on OMAP i.e. other than Gumstix's Overo and would like to integrate the e-CAM32_OMAP_GSTIX Camera on their boards can also check with e-con for support.
